The Hermann Geiger Literary Prize is the literary competition launched by the Geiger Foundation with a view to bringing to the attention of the public the work of talented first-time authors.
The competition is open to Italian debut fiction, not translated from other languages, and published in Italy for the first time between 1 January and 31 December of the previous year.
Leading publishers in Italy put forward the titles of participating works. A panel of judges selected by the Geiger Foundation among teachers, journalists, writers, and figures belonging to the world of culture choose the winner and mention two more titles, which they consider to be particularly interesting, and give the grounds of the award.
The award ceremony is held on a special evening open to the public and opens a window on young authors who are not yet known to the public at large.
