New music at the junior high school Galilei in Cecina
New music at the junior high school Gallilei in Cecina

Thanks to the collaboration between a private individual, the Geiger Foundation, a private junior high school and a music school, an educational project with the aim to teach music to the students has become reality. At a moment like this with all the daily cuts to the culture and public departments this is not a trivial matter.
It is happening at Cecina (Livorno) where, from the next month of September fifty students from the first levels of the junior high school Gallilei will have to follow a three-year long course in music with the prospect of a recognised credit and for the best ones, the exam for entry level 1 at the Conservatorio (School of Music) Puccini in La Spezia to begin even more intensive music courses.A presentation of the project was held yesterday at the centre of the Geiger Foundation.
It involves a long awaited initiative, also because in the whole county of Livorno there are only 2 junior high schools which organise lessons addressing music following a high request. The name of the experimental triennial project is “Siamo” (Experimentation Towards the Individual Music Orientation) which was promoted by the school and financed for a total of 24 thousand (24,000) Euro by the Geiger Cultural Foundation, which has been long active in the promotion of cultural and social projects in Cecina. It begins next September with the start of the new school year when the first two classes of the junior high school, with 25 pupils each, one at the main centre in Cecina and the other one in the detached venue in Palazzi, will have the opportunity to study a musical instrument during 2 hours in the afternoon every week, in addition to the normal timetable included in the school self-government bill (30 weekly hours). The students can choose the instrument they will be studying: from the clarinet to the saxophone, trumpet, violin and guitar, side-blown flute, piano, violin and guitar.
The lessons, held by the music teachers with the assistance of the ones from the music school Sarabanda will be held in in four groups per class depending on the instrument they have pre-selected and by type, these will be given to the school. The enrollments to the courses will expire on February 12th 2011 and for more information you can contact the junior high school Gallilei, Via Fucini 2, tel. 0586.680479, web site www.mediagalilei.it.“We want to give our contribution for the enrichment of the educational availability to the students – Giovanni Servi, President of the Geiger Foundation has explained – also considering the success of the project “Music in the backpack” we held for the children in the elementary school “Guerrazzi”.
