WHEN FOOD BECOMES ILLNESS: ANOREXIA AND BULIMIA
Matteo Mugnani, psychologist and psychoanalyst
Chiarasole Ciavatta, founder of “Mondosole” clinic

Anorexia and bulimia are the most common dietary pathologies in Italy and one of the primary psychiatric causes of death. The symptoms indicating the presence or emergence of these true illnesses strike people of all ages and are a reflection of our consumer society with all its obsessions, fears and compulsions. A dietary ailment is the starting point for understanding how to intervene and how to heal. But it is also of interest to anyone who really wants to understand the world around us, the way people relate to food and the most paradoxical aspects of this relationship. Dr. Mugnani and ChiaraSole have been in the frontlines of prevention and treatment of dietary ailments for years, have appeared on a number of italian television programs (Verissimo, Buona Domenica, NonSoloModa, Uno Mattina, Ricomincio da qui and more) and are particularly aware of changes in dietary and aesthetic models in Italy.
